A glympse of Indonesia

 

Indonesia, known as the Republic of Indonesia (RI), is a South East Asia country. Over 17,000 islands make up this lush tropical into the biggest archipelago country in the world. Numerous cultures have flourished here, from the early Hindu and Buddhist empires to the rise of Islam. 

In the following centuries, Portuguese and British merchants set up trading posts, but the Dutch had the most decisive impact, occupying the islands for 250 years. 

With cultural influences, the culinary heritage and the abundance of the ingredients, such as rice, chilies, limes, tamarind, and spices, have led to the richness in the flavor of dishes.

Each island's culture is different, so People's taste and interest in food make every dish of place unique and distinguished. For example, in Java Island, East Java food is saltier, Central Java and West Java food are sweeter. So eating Beef Soto and Chicken Soto in Surabaya will be salty. People in Central Java, like Semarang city, will put sweet soy sauce over their Beef Soto or Chicken Soto. People in West Java make their Soto Betawi with coconut cream/milk.

Indonesian food is various and dominantly using many ingredients/spices, which make it enjoyable and taste richer/seasoned when you keep them for 2-3 days.

Some famous Indonesian dishes are Beef Rendang, Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), Indonesian Salad 'Gado Gado' with peanut sauce dressing, Chicken Satay with peanut sauce dressing.
